Snakes can cause a great amount of trouble for any human-populated area. Typically, individuals hesitate or are anxious to deal with them out of fear of being bitten. These reptiles inhabit almost every kind of climate, and venomous snakes can be a danger to any residential areas.

When possible, most snakes will flee from any danger, including humans, but some may react violently if they feel cornered. Snakes can hide in tall grass, firewood stacks, under porches and stairwells, or in cracked foundations. They may enter a home or other building for warmth, or if their usual food sources are scarce, and some varieties of snakes pose a serious danger to small pets and children.

They don’t generally damage property, but their limbless bodies can easily slither through narrow openings in search of warmth and prey. Sealing any possible entryways will reduce the chances of a snake making its way into a home, and maintaining grass and landscapes near buildings will make them easier to identify, depriving them of potential hunting grounds and ambush spots.

Some snakes, such as Copper Heads, Water Moccasins, and Rattlesnakes, are venomous and can be fatal to humans or pets should they strike. Some larger snakes are constrictors, and though very unlikely, can and have smothered and killed small children, and domesticated pets. Snakes are natural ambush hunters, so unwary humans that inadvertently disturb a snake’s hiding spot can suffer a strike.
